Originally designed for their explorations along the African coast, caravels were widely used by Portuguese explorers. Caravelas is a Portuguese take on the Age of Discovery. Players start in Lisbon with their flotilla of trading ships. They take advantage of the currents to move, using their limited navigation markers to move away from these. While players score points for being the first to a particular destination, they are also looking for trade goods. Getting these back to Lisbon adds to their score. The ultimate goal is contributing to the construction of Lisbon\'s Jerónimos Monastery, founded to commemorate Vasco da Gama’s return from India.
