B-29 Superfortress: Bombers Over Japan 1944-45
Wargame by Khyber Pass Games

B-29 Superfortress is a solitaire game featuring the technologically most advanced bomber of the Second World War - the B-29 - flying as part of the Twentieth Air Force from the Marianas Islands against targets in and around Japan in late 1944 and 1945.

The briefing officer finally stopped his pacing. He had been going over mission particulars for the last 30 minutes. "Ok, gentlemen, here it is in a nutshell. Your target for today is Tokyo, the heart of the Japanese Empire. You'll be striking the target at night, dropping your payload from 9,000 feet. Flak and enemy resistance is expected to be heavy. Navy subs will be stationed along the path of the target to aid in rescue should any of you feel the need to ditch your $ 1.1 million aircraft. Any questions?"

"None? Alright then. To the hardstands. Dismissed."

The game puts you in the cockpit of a B-29 Superfortress as you fly your missions over Japan. Your goal: sucessfully complete a tour of 35 missions and return home a hero for bringing the war with Japan to a close without a bloody hard-fought invasion of the homeland.

Your missions will be varied: high level, low level, day and night. You will face fighter attacks, flak, searchlight spotting, and bad weather; not to mention damage to your aircraft to include a shattered windshiled and compromised cabin pressure, loss of oxygen supply, damaged landing gear, knocked out navigation or communication equipment, ruptured fuel tanks, inoperable machine gun armament, and just about anything else that can go wrong with a 100 ton aircraft flying 1,500 miles to it's target only to be met with fierce resistance from a determined enemy.

Communism in the West

Communism in the West

Cuba 1958 & Boliva 1967 by Dennis L. Bishop and Andrew Preziosi

Communism in the West contains two games covering Communist insurections in the Western Hemishphere during the 20th century. Both games use area movement and the same combat/game system. CHE is the introductory game in the system and Cuban Revolution builds upon the basic concepts used in CHE adding in Air, Naval, and Artillery units as well as more advanced game concepts.

CUBAN REVOLUTION: Beginning in February, 1958 Castro began the first Guerrilla offensive by coming out of the Sierra Maesta Mountains and attacking the Bastiano troops in the plains. The Bastiano army counter-attacked in June of 1958, driving the Guerrillas back into the mountains. When the Bastiano army attempted to destroy the Guerrillas in their mountain strongholds, the Bastiano army was all but destroyed itself. With all the newly acquired weapons, the Guerrillas launched a final offensive that ended in the only major battle of the war at the town of Santa Clara. The defeat of the Bastiano Western forces caused the rest of the army to begin deserting. When Fulgencia Batista fled in January of 1959, the Guerrillas triumphantly declared the island was officially free. The improbable victory of the Guerrillas resulted in the only communist country in the Western Hemisphere.

CHE: In March, 1967 the situation in Bolivia was chaotic and the country was ripe for the exportation of "The Cuban Revolution". Ernesto "Che" Guevara was sent to Bolivia to begin a revolution which ultimately failed due to the intervention of the CIA and US Green Berets who trained three elite Bolivian ranger battalions who captured "Che" Guevara and later executed him thus ending the Communist threat in Bolivia.

Cuban Revolution Game scale:

Prairie Aflame!
Ziplocked Wargame by Khyber Pass Games

This game is an operational treatment of Canada's Northwest Rebellion of 1885. The Metis (half Native and half European) set up a provisional government to try and get recognition of their concerns with the federal government in Ottawa.

The federal government orders a detachment of Mounties to confiscate any weapons located at the Metis settlement of Duck Lake. The Mounties were met by a force of Metis and Natives and initially there was just talk. However, during the course of the discussion a gun was discharged and within minutes, the battle was on! The Mounties retreated, having taken 25% casualties - the rebellion was on.

To prevent the rebellion from spreading, the government in Ottawa quickly dispatches a military force which would grow to 5,000 troops, most transported by the nearly complete Canadian Pacific Railway. After 4 months and several battles later, the govenment had successfully supressed the rebellion - if they had not, and this was their worst fear, the whole Northwest might have erupted in rebellion, keeping the government busy for years.

The basic military unit in the game is the battalion. All the battalions that participated in the campaign are represented, as are the various Northwest Mounted Police detachments, local militias, artillery, and gatling guns. They are faced by the Metis, the Woods Cree, and the Plains Cree. Units can remain together as battalions, or they can break down. Morale is better as a battalion, while mobility is better as a breakdown unit. Each strength point represents 50 men. The main rebel and government leaders are represented and they have an important effect on the game.

The map shows the area of the Prairies in Canada from Edmonton and Calgary in the west to QuíAppelle in the east. Map scale is 11 miles to the hex, and each turn represents one week. The map is 22 x 34. There is also a 24 page rulebook, and a number of charts, tables, and organizational sheets as well.

Game scale

Unit sizes = Battalion

1 Strength Point = 50 men

Each hex = 11 Miles across

Each game turn = one week
