Games are fast moving and typically last between 40 and 60 minutes. The object of the game is to pillage and destroy towns in the manner of Attila the Hun. Players are the leaders of marauding forces and they attempt to win the required number of Vanquish Points (VPs) in order to win the game. Vanquish Points are awarded for the sacking of towns, for VP tiles won, and for any skulls unspent at the end of the game. Vanquishing a town earns the most VP points, but players have to use their resources wisely. \'Leveling up\' by capturing a tower allows players a chance for a better roll of the dice, and previously used minions can be recalled from the graveyard to bolster a player\'s forces but not without a cost. Designer Alan Newmanalso created an advanced game that players will enjoy once they have mastered the basic game. The advanced version of Dark Minions introduces Overlords, special cards that modify the game rules in different ways and provide players who gain them special powers. Z-Man\'s Dark Minions game also includes a small expansion called Demon Lords that includes some extra Overlords, a special town tile, and a special die, all of which provide players additional ways to mix up the mayhem that is Dark Minions.
